| Samcheok is a significant city for the growth of industry, culture, education, and tourism. It is located in the most south area of Gangwon Province. The east comes into contact with coastline of the east coast, the north, west, and the south are encountered with Donghae city, Jeongseon subcounty, Taebaek, and Uljin in the North Gyeongsang province respectively. |

While Samcheok possess 7% large area of Gangwon Province, it has the vulnerable traffic network because of precipitous mountains. Besides, this city has suffered from the stagnation because of degradation of coal industry.

Affluent natural resources are in harmony with cave and sea. The peculiarity of unique culture heritage establishes the position of cave marine tour city, and it is reborn as a stronghold city of 4 season's resort.
Especially, Samcheok has world-renowned 55 caves including the greatest cave of the east, and Hwanseongul, and mysterious Gwaneumgul. In 2002, the city held ¡¯2002 Samcheok World Cave Expo¡¯ successfully. |
